COVID19 / Corona Virus Update
Travel with Irish Ancestral Tours – Current Position
We are currently living in unprecedented times with the global COVID19 (Corona Virus) pandemic impacting our daily lives in so many ways - from worrying about our own health and those of our loved ones to the manner in which we live our every-day activities, the way we do business and the world economy. Every continent is now feeling the effects of disruption, particularly in terms of travel and communication.
We are all sitting waiting for the next news bulletin to determine how we are to face the next few days and weeks and some issues have taken priority over others. It is difficult to anticipate how things will unfold and impossible to make firm plans with any certainty. Our office is currently closed, as here in Ireland we have been in lock-down for the past week and practising social distancing for two weeks prior to that. As a result, we are unable to reply regularly to emails until the office is reopened, so apologies for the delay in reply in advance.
Initially these constraints were scheduled to be lifted on 31st March, but this has been extended until Easter Sunday in this country. Tentative reports suggest that there will be some relaxing of these restrictions by the end of April, with normalcy returning by June. However, there is nothing certain at this point and we are in the dark as much as anyone. The Irish government is trying to maintain a balance, between “drip-feeding” the numbers requiring hospitalisation so as not to overload our health system, and saving our economy from further damage by returning to normal as soon as possible.
It is very disappointing to everyone concerned regarding possible disruption to long-awaited travel plans. The current position is that all tours scheduled up to and including the 30th April 2020 are the only ones currently being postponed until a later date of the client’s choice. Please await a further email from us regarding this.
Irish Ancestral Tours and Research will allow guests booked for all cancelled tours to move travel dates without incurring cancellation fees. However, a minimum number for rescheduled tours will still apply and should number quotas not be reached, a voucher can be issued to go towards an alternative bespoke tour of your choice to the full value of your original tour price.
O’Dochartaigh Reunion Tour – July 2020
We have worked so hard, putting a huge amount of time and finance into the organisation of the O’Dochartaigh Reunion Tour scheduled for July 2020. As it currently stands, the tour is still to go ahead in late July as planned. We will review the situation at the end of June and unless governmental travel advisories dictate otherwise, we are hopeful that the O’Dochartaigh Reunion will not be cancelled.
If for any reason travel is still restricted in late July, then we will be looking at alternative solutions, including postponing the O’Dochartaigh Reunion possibly to 2021. However, for now this is not even in discussion. Please refer to our website at regular intervals for the latest information regarding the tour. Please refer to our cancellation policy if you still wish to cancel your tour at any point from now until 30th June 2020.
Other Bespoke Tours from June – November 2020
Irish Ancestral Tours and Research will allow guests booked for all cancelled tours to move travel dates with incurring cancellation fees should any scheduled tours be cancelled. However, a minimum number for rescheduled tours will still apply and should number quotas not be reached, a voucher can be issued to go towards an alternative bespoke tour of your choice to the full value of your original tour price.
Should the tour be rescheduled, and the dates do not suit, then you will be given travel vouchers to the value of the original tour price. For guests rebooking an alternative bespoke tour out with the terms of a rescheduled tour and the price is higher, the guest will be responsible for the increase. If the new bespoke tour price is lower, no refund will be issued for the difference.
Travel voucher value can be applied to any booking for 2020 / 2021 with prior organisation with company. Travel vouchers are transferrable with name changes allowed on the land portion of the trip. Travel vouchers issued as the result of an insurance claim and airline tickets cannot be issued in a new name.
Additional Terms and Conditions

Compensation is provided in the form of an Irish Ancestral Travel Voucher, redeemable for travel departing by December 31, 2021. Irish Ancestral Travel Vouchers not redeemable for cash. Offer may be withdrawn at any time and other restrictions may apply.
